How Installers Use It

Any time a crew cuts custom-length extension cord or socket wire from a bulk spool instead of using a factory-terminated stringer, the cut end needs a cap or moisture gets in and corrodes the wire from the inside out. Cap it at the shop when building custom cords, not on the ladder — it's a two-second step during pre-build that prevents a corrosion callback months later.
