The 4-sentence answer

1,000-ft spool of C7 socket wire on SPT-2 jacket (0.045″ outdoor cold-climate). Available with 12″ or 15″ socket spacing between E12 sockets. SPT-2 is the outdoor cold-climate standard — thicker jacket than SPT-1 survives freeze-thaw and UV exposure across multiple seasons. Cut to length, slide on SPT-2 plugs, twist in C7 bulbs to build any-length C7 roofline.

Why the C7 SPT-2 1000' socket wire spool earns its place on the contractor truck

Build custom-length C7 light strings with our 1000 ft bulk spool of heavy-duty SPT-2 socket wire. Designed for professional Christmas light installers and commercial lighting contractors, this contractor-grade spool delivers the durability, flexibility, and clean appearance needed for premium residential rooflines, large commercial properties, and multi-season displays.

Why Pros Choose Bulk C7 SPT-2 Socket Wire

Cut to the exact length every time. Pre-made light strings leave you either short on the run or bunching up excess at the end. With a 1000 ft spool, you measure the roofline, cut the wire, and crimp on plugs — every install looks clean and intentional.

Lower cost per foot on big jobs. Buying socket wire in bulk dramatically reduces material cost compared to pre-assembled sets, which is why thousands of installers in our 40,000+ contractor community rely on bulk SPT-2 spools as the foundation of their seasonal and year-round builds.

Built to last across multiple seasons. Heavier insulation and a tougher jacket mean your custom-built strings hold up to repeated takedown-and-restore cycles without nicks, splits, or socket failures.

Spacing Options

Choose the on-center socket spacing that fits your install style:

  • 12" spacing — Tighter, more luminous look. Best for high-end residential rooflines, peaks, and feature areas where customers want maximum visual density.
  • 15" spacing — The contractor standard for most rooflines and long commercial runs. Balanced light coverage with better material efficiency.

Both spacings are compatible with all standard C7 bulbs (E12 candelabra base), including incandescent, traditional LED, and smooth ceramic LED options.

Color Options

  • Green wire — Disappears into landscaping, wreaths, garland, and tree installations. The default choice for greenery and natural-looking daytime curb appeal.
  • White wire — Blends into white fascia, trim, and gutters. The right call when the wire would otherwise show against light-colored homes.

Built for the Toughest Installs

  • SPT-2 rated wire — UL-listed for outdoor use with heavy-duty insulation for enhanced durability
  • Cold-weather flex — Stays workable in freezing temperatures during late-season installs and takedowns
  • Abrasion-resistant jacket — Handles rough fascia, brick, and stone without compromising the conductor
  • Weather-resistant insulation — Stands up to UV, ice, snow, and rain across multiple seasons
  • C7 sockets molded directly to the wire — Sealed connections with no loose components or failure points
  • Compatible with standard SPT-2 plugs and vampire connectors

What You'll Need to Complete the Install

To turn this spool into finished light strings, you'll also need:

  • C7 bulbs (incandescent, LED, or smooth ceramic — your choice)
  • SPT-2 male and female plugs
  • An SPT-2 crimping tool

When to spec C7 SPT-2 socket wire

Outdoor residential C7 rooflines

12″ spacing for residential standard; 15″ for wider commercial-scale spread. SPT-2 jacket handles direct outdoor exposure across multiple seasons.

Commercial storefront + signage

Storefront sign band lighting where the C7 bulb size + warm-white glow is the design intent. SPT-2 wire survives storefront daily traffic and weather exposure.

Patio cover and architectural accent

C7 + 15″ spacing reads well at viewing distance on patio cover edges, deck rails, and architectural feature lines. SPT-2 wire ages well in covered-outdoor environments.

What this wire works with

Bulbs
C7 (E12 base) — Minleon V2 C7, G40/G50 E12 SMD bulbs, any standard E12 base bulb.
Plugs
SPT-2 male + female slide-on plugs. Don't cross-match with SPT-1.
Clips
C7 Tuff Clip, C7 Wedge Tuff Clip, C7 Tuff Shingle Clip, Tuff Tab (dual C7/C9 compatible), Tuff Mag (magnetic).
Will NOT work with
C9 bulbs (E17 base — wrong socket size), 240V circuits, direct burial.

C7 SPT-2 vs C7 SPT-1 socket wire

Spec C7 SPT-2 (this spool) C7 SPT-1
Jacket thickness 0.045″ 0.030″
Outdoor cold-climate Yes (rated) Indoor / sheltered only
UV resistance High Moderate
Per-foot cost Higher Lower
Best for Outdoor cold-climate roofline Indoor + sheltered installs

How to install C7 SPT-2 socket wire

  1. Measure the roofline. Add 6-8 ft per corner for slack. Cut from the 1000-ft spool to job-specific length.
  2. Add male plug at the supply end. SPT-2 male slide-on plug. Snap cover until it clicks. Test polarity with an outlet tester.
  3. Twist in C7 bulbs at ground level. Hand-tight only. E12 base into each socket along the line. Walk the line plugged in to test before going up the ladder.
  4. Cap the line end. SPT-2 female plug (knockout-tab capped if no chain; popped tab if chaining to another stringer).
  5. Mount with C7 clips. Pre-clip the stringer at ground level (faster than clipping on the roof). Climb up and snap clips section by section.

Build quality + materials

  • Heavy-duty SPT-2 jacket — survives outdoor cold-climate exposure + freeze-thaw + UV across multiple seasons.
  • E12 socket spacing — precision-molded at 12″ or 15″ intervals. No socket drift over the spool length.
  • Reusable across seasons — cut + plug + bulb the line; take down at season end; re-deploy next year.

Warranty

1-year manufacturer warranty on C7 SPT-2 socket wire from Christmas Lights HQ. Covers manufacturing defects and socket failure in first season. Not covered: cuts, animal damage, cross-matched plugs, exceeding the 7A rating per circuit.

Questions contractors actually ask

How many C7 bulbs will a 1000 ft SPT-2 spool hold?

At 12" spacing, you'll get approximately 1,000 sockets per spool. At 15" spacing, approximately 800 sockets. Always confirm socket count on the spool label before cutting your runs.

Can I run LED and incandescent C7 bulbs on the same string?

Yes — the wire and sockets are compatible with both. Just be aware that mixing bulb types on the same string can create slight color and brightness inconsistencies. For a uniform look, stick with one bulb type per run.

What's the maximum run length per circuit?

This depends on the bulb type. LED C7 bulbs allow significantly longer runs (often 1,000+ ft per circuit) compared to incandescent (typically capped around 200-250 ft). Always calculate amperage based on your specific bulb's wattage before powering up a run.

Is SPT-2 wire safe for year-round outdoor use?

SPT-2 is UL-rated for outdoor seasonal lighting use and built to withstand multiple seasons of exposure. For permanent year-round architectural lighting, a dedicated permanent lighting system like King Permanent Lighting may be a better fit.

Do I need a special tool to attach plugs?

Yes, you'll need an SPT-2 crimping tool (sometimes called a vampire plug tool) to attach male and female ends to your cut runs. It's a one-time investment that pays for itself on your first job.
