The 4-sentence answer

The C7 Tuff Wedge Clip is a Christmas light clip designed for all-in-one residential roofline installs that mix gutter and shingle sections. Compatible with C7 bulbs (E12 base). A single clip that mounts on both gutter and shingle surfaces — eliminates the need to stock two clip types per truck. Pro-installer pattern: pre-clip the stringer at the ground (clip every socket while the line is laid out), then mount the pre-clipped line section by section — faster than clipping on the roof.

Why the C7 Tuff Wedge Clip earns its place on the contractor truck

The C7 Tuff Wedge Clip is the newest addition to the TuffClips lineup — and the first clip in the family engineered to handle both gutters and shingles equally well in a single product. Slide-over Flex-Over-Bulb technology, a wedge-shaped tip for clean shingle insertion, and a longer body that grips harder than anything else in the catalog. Fits all standard C7 bulbs on SPT-1 and SPT-2 socket wire.

Built for the Job

Wedge-shaped tip for shingle installs. The clip gets its name from the bevel at the base — a double-beveled point that slides cleanly between shingle layers that other clips fight to enter. Asphalt, architectural, cedar shake: the wedge works through them all without forcing the shingle apart or curling the edge.

Flex-Over-Bulb slide-over technology. Like the Flex Clip and Tuff Tab, the Wedge slides over a C7 bulb that's already screwed into the socket. Pre-bulb your strands in the shop, deploy on-site, and skip the cold-fingered clip-first workflow. Or clip on-site as you go — the choice is yours.

Elongated clip body for extra grip. A longer overall length means more surface contact with the gutter or shingle edge — which translates to a clip that doesn't shift in the wind or sag mid-season. The extra depth is the difference between a roofline that holds through a January ice storm and one that needs a callback by New Year's.

Reduced cavity gap for more bite. The clip cavity is tightened up versus traditional designs, so the grip closes harder against the mounting surface. More bite means more stability, especially on thinner gutter lips and shallower shingle profiles where loose-fitting clips lose their hold.

Fixed-angle tail. The tail is set at a fixed angle that maximizes adherence to shingle surfaces — it pulls the clip body into the shingle for a tight, low-profile installation that stays put under load.

Raised contact pad. A raised pad on the clip body provides additional surface area for shingle stability. The grip distributes load across more material instead of concentrating it on a single contact point, which means less risk of the clip working loose over a long season.

UV-stabilized heavy-duty plastic. Same high-durability material as the rest of the TuffClips family. Survives extreme cold, summer UV, freeze-thaw cycles, and the mechanical stress of repeat install and takedown across multiple seasons.

Designed for Speed

One clip for gutters and shingles. The Wedge Clip's geometry is dialed for both surface types, so a single clip handles a full residential roofline — gutter sections, shingle transitions, drip edge, and back to gutter — without switching products mid-install. Less inventory in the trailer, fewer SKUs to track, faster work on mixed roofs.

Slide-over installation. No tools, no fasteners, no drilling. Slide the wedge into the shingle or hook the clip over the gutter, then slide it over your C7 bulb. Crews move fast across long rooflines without stopping to swap clip types or hunt for hardware.

Clean takedown. Like the rest of the TuffClips lineup, the Wedge Clip locks to the bulb-and-socket and comes off the roof with the lights at the end of the season. No clips left behind, no end-of-season cleanup runs, no hardware loss between seasons.

Why C7 Contractors Reach for the Wedge

C7 installs tend to run more sockets per foot than C9 — tree wraps, eaves, detail work, smaller-scale rooflines — which means more clips on every job and a higher cost-per-callback if any of those clips fail. The Wedge Clip's longer body, tighter cavity, fixed tail angle, double bevel, and raised contact pad are all engineering responses to the failure modes pros see in the field. On a C7 route where you're placing hundreds of clips per house, hardware that holds is the difference between a profitable season and one spent on re-clip runs.

Who this clip is built for

Mixed-roofline residential installs

The volume residential pick when one section of the run goes on gutter and another on shingle. Wedge clip mounts on either — no swap mid-run.

Contractor truck simplification

Stock one clip type instead of two. Reduces SKU count + per-truck inventory cost. Common pick for crews running 50+ residential installs per season.

C7 patio + accent installs

C7 bulb size + wedge clip pairs well with patio cover lighting, deck rail installs, and architectural accent runs where the visible bulb size is smaller than C9.

How to install

  1. Pre-bulb the stringer at the ground. Mount bulbs into the stringer BEFORE going up the ladder. Walk the line plugged in to test for dead bulbs.
  2. Pre-clip the stringer at the ground. Slide clips onto every socket while the line is laid out. Faster than clipping on the roof.
  3. Mount on either gutter or shingle. Wedge clips work on both surfaces — slide under shingle edge OR snap over gutter front lip per installer preference.
  4. Verify and stake the supply cord. Confirm the full line lights. Route the supply cord to the outlet.

Build quality + materials

  • UV-stabilized polymer — resists yellowing, cold-cracking, and freeze-thaw degradation across multiple seasons.
  • Universal-mount geometry — works on gutter front lip AND shingle edge without modification.
  • Reusable — multiple seasons with proper takedown. Year-three look matches day-one look as long as the clip is removed from the roof after each season.

Warranty

1-year manufacturer warranty on the C7 Tuff Wedge Clip from Christmas Lights HQ. Covers manufacturing defect on first season of use.

Not covered: damage from year-round outdoor exposure, animal damage, install on non-rated surfaces.

Questions contractors actually ask

What's the difference between the C7 Wedge Clip and the Original C7 Tuff Clip?

The Wedge Clip is engineered as an all-in-one for both gutters and shingles, with a wedge-shaped tip designed specifically to slide between shingle layers. It also uses Flex-Over-Bulb slide-over technology, so you can pre-bulb your strands and clip after the fact — the Original C7 Tuff Clip mounts to the gutter first, then you screw the bulb in. The Wedge has a longer body, tighter cavity, and raised contact pad for stronger grip on both surfaces.

Can the C7 Wedge Clip be used on both gutters and shingles?

Yes — that's the point of the design. The double-beveled wedge tip slides between shingle layers, while the elongated clip body and reduced cavity gap deliver a firm grip on gutter lips. One clip handles a full residential roofline, including transitions between surfaces.

Does the C7 Wedge Clip work with slide-over Flex technology?

Yes. The Wedge Clip is built with Flex-Over-Bulb technology — slide the clip over a C7 bulb that's already screwed into the socket. Pre-bulb your strands in the shop, clip on-site, and save real time across a route.

What's the wedge tip for?

The wedge is a double-beveled point at the base of the clip that slides cleanly between tough-to-separate shingle layers without curling or damaging the shingle. It's especially useful on asphalt shingles that have settled tight or on cedar shakes that resist standard clip insertion.

Will the C7 Wedge Clip damage shingles or gutters?

No. The wedge tip is engineered to slide between shingle layers without applying separating pressure, and the gutter grip distributes load across the elongated clip body and raised contact pad rather than pinching at a single point. No drilling, no adhesive, no fasteners.

What size bulbs does the C7 Wedge Clip fit?

The C7 Wedge Clip is sized for C7 bulbs (E12 candelabra base) on standard SPT-1 and SPT-2 socket wire. Drop it onto your existing C7 setup or pair with new spools. If you're running C9 bulbs instead, you'll need the C9 version of the Wedge Clip; the sizes are not interchangeable.

What is the C7 Wedge Clip made of?

UV-stabilized heavy-duty plastic — the same material used across the TuffClips family. Engineered to survive extreme cold, summer UV exposure, freeze-thaw cycles, and the mechanical stress of repeat install and takedown across multiple seasons.
