The 4-sentence answer

1,000-ft spool of C7 socket wire on SPT-1 jacket (0.030″ indoor / sheltered). Available with 12″ or 15″ socket spacing between E12 sockets. SPT-1 is the indoor / sheltered standard — lower per-foot cost than SPT-2 when the wire stays under cover. Cut to length, slide on SPT-1 plugs, twist in C7 bulbs.

Why the C7 SPT-1 1000' socket wire spool earns its place on the contractor truck

Build your own custom-length C7 light strings with our 1000 ft bulk spool of SPT-1 socket wire. Designed for professional Christmas light installers and serious DIYers, this contractor-grade spool gives you the flexibility to cut exact runs for rooflines, trees, ridgelines, and commercial displays — no wasted product, no awkward extension cords, no compromise on appearance.

Why Pros Choose Bulk C7 Socket Wire

Cut to the exact length every time. Pre-made light strings force you to either come up short or bunch up extra wire at the end of a run. With a 1000 ft spool, you measure the roofline, cut the wire, and crimp on plugs — every install looks clean and intentional.

Lower cost per foot. Buying socket wire in bulk dramatically reduces your material cost compared to pre-assembled sets, which is why thousands of installers in our 40,000+ contractor community rely on bulk spools as the foundation of their seasonal builds.

Faster job sites. Once your team is set up with bulk wire and a crimping system, builds get faster every season. Custom-length strings also mean fewer service calls for sagging or bunched wire.

Spacing Options

Choose the on-center socket spacing that fits your install style:

  • 12" spacing — Tighter, more luminous look. Best for high-end residential rooflines, peaks, and feature areas where customers want maximum visual density.
  • 15" spacing — The contractor standard for most rooflines. Balanced light coverage with better material efficiency on long runs.

Both spacings are compatible with all standard C7 bulbs (E12 candelabra base), including incandescent, traditional LED, and smooth ceramic LED options.

Color Options

  • Green wire — Disappears into landscaping, wreaths, garland, and tree installations. The default choice for greenery and natural-looking daytime curb appeal.
  • White wire — Blends into white fascia, trim, and gutters. The right call when the wire would otherwise show against light-colored homes.

Built for Outdoor Pro Installs

  • SPT-1 rated wire — UL-listed for outdoor use and rated to handle the load of a full C7 run
  • Weather-resistant insulation — Stands up to UV, freezing temps, ice, and repeated install/teardown cycles
  • Compatible with standard SPT-1 plugs and vampire connectors — Works with the crimping tools and accessories you already own
  • C7 sockets molded directly to the wire — No loose components, no failure points

What You'll Need to Complete the Install

To turn this spool into finished light strings, you'll also need:

  • C7 bulbs (incandescent, LED, or smooth ceramic — your choice)
  • SPT-1 male and female plugs
  • A SPT-1 crimping tool

When to spec C7 SPT-1 over SPT-2

Indoor and covered-outdoor C7 displays

Mall trees, lobby displays, covered patio strings. SPT-1 is cheaper per foot than SPT-2 — right pick when the wire stays under cover.

Cost-sensitive residential runs

When the C7 line lives under soffit or in a sheltered location. SPT-1 jacket meets the load requirement at 20-30% lower per-foot cost than SPT-2.

Patio cover + deck rail C7 installs

Indoor-rated C7 strings on covered patio ceilings, pergola tops, deck rail edges. SPT-1 covers the load without paying for the SPT-2 outdoor jacket spec.

How to install C7 SPT-1 socket wire

  1. Measure the run length. Add 4-6 ft of slack. Cut from the spool with sharp wire cutters.
  2. Add male plug at supply end. SPT-1 slide-on plug — match SPT-1 only. Snap cover until it clicks.
  3. Twist in C7 bulbs at ground level. E12 base hand-tight. Walk the line plugged in to test before mounting.
  4. Cap the line end. SPT-1 female plug. Pop the knockout tab if chaining another stringer.
  5. Mount with C7 clips in covered locations. Pre-clip at ground; install along soffit, indoor display points, or covered patio.

Questions contractors actually ask

How many C7 bulbs will a 1000 ft spool hold?

At 12" spacing, you'll get approximately 1,000 sockets per spool. At 15" spacing, approximately 800 sockets. Always confirm socket count on the spool label before cutting your runs.

Can I run LED and incandescent C7 bulbs on the same string?

Yes — the wire and sockets are compatible with both. Just be aware that mixing bulb types on the same string can create slight color and brightness inconsistencies. For a uniform look, stick with one bulb type per run.

What's the maximum run length per circuit?

This depends on the bulb type. LED C7 bulbs allow significantly longer runs (often 1,000+ ft per circuit) compared to incandescent (typically capped around 200-250 ft). Always calculate amperage based on your specific bulb's wattage before powering up a run.

Is SPT-1 wire safe for outdoor use?

Yes, SPT-1 is UL-rated for outdoor seasonal lighting use. For permanent year-round installations, a heavier gauge or permanent lighting system like King Permanent Lighting may be a better fit.

Do I need a special tool to attach plugs?

You'll need an SPT-1 crimping tool (sometimes called a vampire plug tool) to attach male and female ends to your cut runs. It's a one-time investment that pays for itself on your first job.
